Grandma’s Thanksgiving Mac N Cheese
If you grew up in the South during the 1950’s there is a very good chance your Grandmother would have served Mac n Cheese on Thanksgiving. Seriously what could be a better side dish.
You will need:
- 1/2 lb elbow macaroni cooked 3 min short of recommended time.
- 1/2 lb of shredded white cheddar cheese
- 1.5 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs mixed with 2 tbs melted butter
- Grandma’s white sauce
Prepare Grandma’s white sauce:
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp flour
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1 tsp of salt
- 1 tsp of black pepper
Directions:
- Melt the butter in a saucepan; stir in flour until smooth, add salt and pepper and simmer over low heat until it begins to bubble.
- Add milk gradually, stirring constantly. Cook, stirring until sauce thickens and comes to a boil.
- Once this sauce is boiling add the shredded cheddar cheese and the Worcestershire sauce. Stir the cheese into the sauce until it completely melts.
- Now add the cooked macaroni and stir into the sauce.
- Butter a casserole dish and pour the macaroni into the dish and top with the buttered breadcrumbs.
- Place into a pre heated 350 degree oven until the Mac n cheese is bubbling and the breadcrumbs are browned.
- Allow this to sit for 10 minutes before serving. Y’all know no one makes a better Thanksgiving Mac n Cheese then Grandma.
